Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Anchor Care Consulting?  ACC provides personalized education, guidance, and practical strategies to help families/caregivers navigate the day-to-day challenges of caring for someone living with dementia. We focus on communication, behavior, routines, safety, and meaningful participation in daily activities. Is this speech therapy?  No, ACC provides caregiver education and consulting, NOT traditional speech-language therapy. As a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Dementia Practitioner, Ashley draws on her clinical experience and dementia care expertise to provide caregiver guidance and education. Who is ACC for? Our services are designed for family members and caregivers supporting a loved one with dementia or related cognitive impairment. Whether you are newly navigating a diagnosis or have been caregiving for years, consultations are tailored to your specific needs. What can we discuss during a consultation? Common concerns include: resistance to bathing/dressing/toileting, repetitive questions or behaviors, communication breakdowns, difficulty following directions, changes in routines, refusing meals/medications/activities, safety concerns, difficulty engaging in meaningful activities, etc. What happens during a 1:1 virtual consultation? Prior to the session, you will complete a pre-consultation questionnaire with your primary concerns and challenges. We will discuss your loved one, the specific challenges you’re experiencing, and what you’ve already tried. Together, we’ll identify practical, individualized strategies you can implement at home. You’ll leave with concrete ideas and techniques rather than a one-size-fits-all generic handout. Are consultations conducted virtually? Yes. All consultations are conducted virtually, allowing you to receive support from the comfort of your own home. Will you diagnose my loved one? No. Anchor Care Consulting does not diagnose dementia or other medical conditions. Medical diagnoses and changes in health should be addressed with your loved one’s physician or appropriate healthcare provider. Can you tell me if my loved one is safe to live alone? We can discuss specific concerns and help you identify potential safety considerations, but an ACC consultation does not replace a comprehensive medical, occupational/physical therapy or home-safety assessment. What if I’ve tried everything? That’s an incredibly common feeling. Dementia care rarely has a single solution that works for every person, every day. We can look at what you’ve tried, why it may not have worked, and consider other approaches based on your loved one’s abilities, preferences, routines, and communication styles. Does it matter where I am located? We are currently serving caregivers who live in the states of New York and New Jersey.
